Diagnostics

Many illnesses and injuries that can affect our animal companions cannot be easily detected on the surface of the skin. Even a thorough external exam with the veterinarian  may not always be enough to properly diagnose and treat ailments in our pets. When we need to dig deeper, we turn to veterinary diagnostics to help us get the answers. These critical tools allow our experienced doctors to get a glimpse inside your pet’s body.

Our hospital is outfitted with up to date diagnostic equipment, which provides for faster, more accurate testing capabilities. We are able to run these tests right in our in-house laboratory, while you and your pet wait:

  • Complete Blood Counts
  • Serum Chemistries
  • Electrolytes
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal Testing
  • Heartworm Testing

For those rare occasions that require more advanced or specialized testing, we are able to send samples to outside lab. This ensures continued quality of care and timely treatment for your pet.

In addition to our in-house diagnostic lab, we also have state-of-the-art digital radiology (x-ray) equipment, which allows us to evaluate the inner workings of your pet’s body. Because this technology is digital, it’s much safer for your pet. It allows us to evaluate the images much more quickly, and share them instantly via email should a second opinion or advice from a specialist be warranted. This enables us to obtain an accurate diagnosis and also significantly reduces your wait time.

For those situations in which x-rays aren’t enough to provide us with a complete picture of what’s happening inside your pet’s body, we use ultrasound technology. EKG and blood pressure machines are available to evaluate cardiac function. A Tonopen tool is also available to measure your pet’s eye pressure, allowing for rapid detection of ophthalmic conditions, such as glaucoma.

In some cases we may offer specialist referrals for patients whose condition is serious, for whom an accurate diagnosis is proving difficult to achieve or those that require specialized care such as chemotherapy. We have close working relationships with several specialists in the area who will assist us in providing your pet with the best available care.
